Courier price guide

Courier charges in India, explained.

Reviewed: 9 September 2026 · Domestic parcels

Courier charges are not a single flat price per kilogram. A useful comparison starts with the same route, packed dimensions, actual weight, payment type and service speed for every option.

The five inputs that change a parcel price

  1. Origin and destination PIN codes. Couriers group routes into local, regional, metro and national zones, with separate remote-area rules.
  2. Chargeable weight. The higher of actual weight and the carrier's volumetric calculation is commonly used.
  3. Service level. Surface, economy, express and air products have different prices and delivery expectations.
  4. Payment and protection. COD collection, insurance, declared value and proof of delivery may add fees.
  5. Taxes and current surcharges. GST, fuel and handling charges can change the payable total.

How to compare courier quotes fairly

Use the parcel's packed—not product—dimensions. Check whether GST and COD are included. Compare delivery estimates in business days, note whether a route is surface or air, and verify the final amount on the courier's official channel before paying.

Indicative estimate versus confirmed price

ShipScanner labels a published tariff differently from a third-party platform estimate. We do not turn a missing price into a made-up number. The pricing methodology explains the labels and ranking rules.

Frequently asked questions

How are courier charges calculated in India?

Most services use the route, service speed and chargeable weight, which may be the greater of actual and volumetric weight. GST and optional services such as COD, insurance or proof of delivery can be added.

Is there one fixed courier charge per kilogram?

No. A per-kilogram figure without the origin PIN, destination PIN, parcel size and service type is only a rough guide. Many couriers also use minimum weight slabs and zone-based rates.

Why is the final price different from an online estimate?

The courier may measure the parcel differently, classify the destination as remote, apply a current fuel surcharge or add taxes and service fees. The courier's confirmed payable price always controls.

Important: ShipScanner is an independent information service, not a courier or booking agent. Always confirm serviceability, prohibited items and the final payable amount with the carrier.
